TreeView Day Surgery opens its doors
With the new green shoots of spring bursting outside, Eye Doctors is also embracing a new season with the opening of its recently accredited TreeView Day Surgery.
Inspired by the sycamore tree stretching out in front of the surgery’s panoramic window, the surgery’s name reflects the connection between the facility and its natural surroundings, said Shellene Garofalakis, Eye Doctors’ practice manager.
The Eye Doctors team had been considering the possibility of designing its own facility for a little while, she said. “When the opportunity arose to secure rooms directly attached to our Remuera clinic within Ascot Central, we simply couldn’t miss the chance to create our own space.”
The purpose-built facility was designed with one goal in mind: to provide patients with an exceptional surgical experience, Garofalakis said. “With our own dedicated theatre, we have greater control over the patient journey, enabling us to offer faster access to surgical availability. Morning lists will operate five days a week*, providing additional flexibility for patients and referring optometrists.”
Working closely with ophthalmology design specialist FocusPlan, the team said the facility includes expansive windows to allow natural light to flood the pre- and postoperative areas, while a timeless palette and carefully selected finishes create a warm, boutique environment. “The result is a space that feels welcoming and calm without compromising the clinical functionality required for day surgery,” Garofalakis said.
Another key part of the project was building the right nursing team. “TreeView Day Surgery brings together highly skilled ophthalmic nurses and surgery team members who each contribute their own unique skills and experience,” she said. “As founding members of the surgery, the team has developed a strong sense of ownership and belonging, which is reflected in the warm and professional environment we provide for patients.”
Following the 2025 celebration of 20 years in practice, the directors of Eye Doctors – Drs Mark Donaldson, Julia Escardo-Paton, Arvind Gupta, Penny McAllum and Andrew Riley –were delighted to embark on this next chapter. “They are incredibly proud of what they have created and look forward to welcoming our patients, colleagues and referring optometrists.”
