  • Dr Mark Donaldson  I  Shaping the Future of Glaucoma Care: Insights from the World Glaucoma Conference

Mark will share insights from his recent conference experiences, with a particular focus on the World Glaucoma Conference. A key theme was the growing reliance on OCT for both diagnosis and monitoring of glaucoma, which he will illustrate through recent clinical cases. 

  • Dr Penny McAllum  I  Complex Cataracts Made Clear: Highlights from ASCRS 2025

After attending the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery meeting in Los Angeles, Penny will share key insights relevant to managing complex cataract cases. Particular emphasis will be placed on decision-making around assessment, timing, and patient education. 

  • Dr Andrew Riley  I  Eyes Across Oceans: Updates in Volunteer Ophthalmic Services

This presentation will cover three key areas of current ophthalmic practice and service. First, a review of volunteer ophthalmic services across Fiji, Tonga, and Samoa over three decades, reflecting on achievements, challenges, and future directions in supporting regional eye health. Second, an overview of current controversies from ASCRS 2025. Finally, a case presentation of an adult vitelliform lesion.

  • Dr Julia Escardo-Paton  I  Intermittent Exotropia - When and How to Treat

Intermittent exotropia is a common comitant type of strabismus that usually presents in childhood but can present at any age. Although benign, it often causes cosmetic concern and, in the older individual, it may cause intermittent diplopia or a “pulling sensation” when manifest. Julia will present the pros and cons of the different management strategies, illustrating them with real cases.

  • Dr Arvind Gupta  I  Should bilateral simultaneous cataract surgery be a norm?

This presentation will explore the advantages and limitations of bilateral simultaneous cataract surgery and discuss strategies to refine its application, ensuring optimal outcomes while balancing patient safety, efficiency, and sustainability.
