Speakers and topics for the evening:
- Dr Andrew Riley I Presbyopia and Presbycusis: The Double Sensory Shift
As presbyopia and presbycusis increasingly coexist, the future of spectacles and wearable tech is evolving. From Nuance audio glasses to bone-conduction eyewear, clinicians must navigate the intersection of vision and hearing care. This session explores case-based audiogram interpretation, hearing loss types, and age-related auditory challenges.
- Dr Penny McAllum I Band Keratopathy: Recognition and Management
Band keratopathy, a common corneal degeneration, presents with distinctive calcium deposits linked to chronic inflammation and systemic conditions. This session covers key clinical signs, slit-lamp findings, and differentiation from other corneal disorders. Learn evidence-based medical and surgical management through case examples to improve diagnosis and patient care.
- Dr Mark Donaldson I Vitreous Floaters: How to make them pay
Vitreous floaters are common and usually harmless but can significantly impact daily life for some patients. This session explores their causes, key red flags, and important differential diagnoses. Through case-based examples, management strategies from reassurance to laser and surgical options are discussed.
- Dr Julia Escardo-Paton I Retinopathy of Prematurity: From Screening to Sight Prevention
Retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) is a potentially blinding disease of the premature retina, often affecting the tiniest infants. Timely screening, now largely via fundal photography, is essential as early disease is asymptomatic. This session explores risk factors, evolving treatments from laser to anti-VEGF, and current management controversies.
- Dr Arvind Gupta I Pseudo-Tumour Cerebri: Expect the Unexpected
Idiopathic Intracranial Hypertension (IIH) is a rare disorder causing raised brain pressure, primarily in obese women of childbearing age. Symptoms include headaches, vision changes, and pulsatile tinnitus, with risk of permanent blindness. This session covers differential diagnosis, investigations, and medical and surgical management strategies.
