Dr Shuan Dai attended the Asia-Pacific Vitreo-retina Society (APVRS) conference in Sydney this month where he was also a guest speaker. Dr Dai spoke about advances in pediatric retinal diseases, and in particular Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP) which is the leading cause of childhood blindness. The prevalence of this condition has increased due to improvement in the survival of children who are at risk. Dr Dai outlined strategies for improving early diagnosis which are used by the Auckland Regional ROP service - something he has been involved with for the past 8 years and which hasn't missed a single at risk baby during this time.
