Dr Andrew Riley attends Retina meeting in Colorado

Dr Andrew Riley attended the Aspen Retinal meeting in Colorado in March where a number of leading American experts presented the latest innovations and results of studies they were involved in. 

The DRCR.net diabetic retinopathy research presented by Dr Lee M. Jambol was particularly interesting. DRCR.net has run 28 open source studies on diabetic retinopathy and is now leading the research in this field. The use of intravitreal injections of vascular endothelial growth factor inhibitors continues to show superior results to traditional laser in some cases of diabetic retinopathy. The current innovation’s and ethics of Gene therapy for inherited retinal diseases were explored. The first clinical trial for gene therapy have been completed with positive results.
