Dr Julia Escardo-Paton specialises in:

  • Children's eye conditions including: refractive errors, strabismus (squints), amblyopia (lazy eye), myopia, watery eyes, retinopathy of prematurity
  • Adult strabismus
  • Refractive Cataract Surgery – including astigmatism correcting lenses (Toric IOLs), multifocal lenses (ReSTOR IOLs)
  • General ophthalmology

Julia grew up in South America and then spent her early adult years in the USA where she completed her undergraduate degree. She then moved to the United Kingdon with her British husband where she completed her general medical and ophthalmology training. She came to Auckland for advanced postgraduate fellowship in Paediatric Ophthalmology and Adult Strabismus in 2010. During the next seven years she exercised those skills in South Wales, UK. But in 2017 the temptation to move back to New Zealand drew her and her family back to Auckland. She now splits her time working between the public and private sectors. When not at work, she enjoys boating, sailing, cycling, discovering the beauty of New Zealand, and cheering her active children in their various sporting and extracurricular activities. She enjoys travel generally and speaks Spanish, French and some Italian.
